Description
Jesus is taken down from the cross after the Crucifixion as Jewish followers and Roman soldiers gather on the rocky hill outside the city walls. A ladder rests against the timber, men prepare to receive the Lord’s body, and a Roman guard stands before the cross while women disciples wait in grief nearby. The scene centers on the solemn work traditionally associated with Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, who asked for the body of Jesus and prepared Him for burial with reverence. In the Passion narrative, this moment marks the transition from the public shame of Golgotha to the hidden hope of the tomb: Christ is truly dead, yet His burial becomes the threshold of Resurrection. The artwork serves well for Holy Week, Good Friday, Easter teaching, Passion presentations, and ministry resources on sacrifice, burial, and redemption.
